Tony
Burton was just 5 years old when he started playing guitar.
His father, also a musician, invited him onstage during a
show and from then on, Tony often played with the band. By
the time he reached high school, Tony had formed his own group,
and they won the Homegrown Hour program on the
Indianapolis radio station Q95.
Since
then, Tony has played with many bands, both on the local and
national level, including Roadmaster from 1990 to 1998 and
alongside Larry Crane, musician/singer/songwriter and former
John Mellencamp sideman. In addition, Tonys guitar playing
has appeared in the MGM movie, "Madison, an Indiana
Pacers theme song and a Hoosier Lottery commercial. He has
co-authored two books by Hal Leonard Publishing, Heavy
Metal Guitar Tricks and Thrash Guitar Method.
For
over 25 years, Tony has been teaching guitar to students of
all ages. Please read some student quotes below:
Tony
uses familiar songs to teach important methods and techniques
that are used in the songs. This makes the process much more
enjoyable than simply learning the technique.
I
was someone who was totally new to the guitar. Tony started
out teaching me the fundamentals of the musical scale and
notes, instead of simply teaching me how to read tabs. These
were important building blocks that make me a better guitar
player in the long run and give me a greater understanding
of music.BM
Rather
than just focusing on the guitar by itself, Tonys lessons
address the performance aspect as well, making them applicable
and preparing me to be on stage some day. Well turn
on a drumbeat and sing and play together. Its a good
time.Holly
Tony
uses helpful analogies and stories to explain important concepts
or points during the lesson, and his personality makes the
lessons fun. I look forward to our lessons. Jay
